Historic Home Kitchen Layout

Fitting a modern kitchen into a historic building requires creative solutions. In a recent project in Cathedral Hill in Saint Paul, we took on an interesting kitchen layout challenge. We needed to place a long run of counter surface in front of two tall, beautiful windows. Altering the window opening was out of the question and blocking half of the glass area with a base cabinet seemed sloppy. Our simple solution involved building a cabinet without a back. A deep drawer accommodates pots and pans. A floating shelf, leg detail and a finished edge on the back of the counter stone complete the look.

Pantone Spring 2010 Color Trends

“Why do two colors, put one next to the other, sing? Can one really explain this? No.” –Pablo Picasso

Every spring Pantone Color Institute® releases a fashion color report. Pantone is the color system designers use to get accurate color results, which makes Pantone a great resource for color trends.

This year I am particularly excited about the fresh take on neutrals with Pink Champagne, Tuscany and Eucalyptus. I think it will pair nicely with the Tomato Puree and Fusion Coral.
